It is easier to keep a home clean a little each day than to clean all weekend. This ready-made plan spreads the chores across the days of the week, so your apartment stays in order without last-minute rushes.
The principle of 30 minutes a day
When all the cleaning is put off until the weekend, it turns into an exhausting half-day marathon. If you spend 30 minutes a day instead, the load is spread out and the apartment always stays clean, without the feeling that you have to "take on everything at once".
The secret is a system: each day is assigned to one zone or task. You do not have to decide where to start, you just follow the plan. Below is a ready-made checklist that you can adjust to fit your life.
Daily
A few simple tasks that keep the mess from piling up. They take 10–15 minutes:
- Dishes: wash them right away or load the dishwasher, do not leave them overnight.
- Surfaces: wipe the kitchen counters and the dining table after meals.
- Kitchen floor: quickly sweep or wipe the cooking area.
Day by day
Bigger tasks go on the weekdays, one zone a day:
- Monday: dust on all surfaces, shelves and electronics.
- Tuesday: bathroom (sink, toilet, shower, mirrors).
- Wednesday: floors throughout the apartment, vacuuming and wet cleaning.
- Thursday: a deeper kitchen clean (stove, cabinet fronts, sink, microwave).
- Friday: textiles and laundry (bedding, towels, blankets).
Once a month
The weekly plan keeps your apartment in order, but once a month it is worth doing a deep cleaning: washing the windows, the insides of appliances, baseboards, doors and hard-to-reach spots that you do not get to on weekdays. That way dirt does not build up in layers.
If you are short on time
Not everyone has half an hour every day, and that is fine. If your schedule is tight, hand off regular maintenance cleaning: cleaners come once every week or two and keep things clean for you.
