Cooktop polishing is a deep cleaning of a glass-ceramic, induction or gas-on-glass cooktop that restores its shine: the technician removes burnt-on residue with a special scraper, dissolves grease and buildup, polishes the glass and applies a protective layer. When polishing helps and when it doesn't

Polishing works on anything that sits on the glass or has slightly worked into it. We do not grind down the material itself, so polishing cannot fix mechanical damage. We tell you this honestly at the inspection, before the work starts.

Checking a scratch is easy: run a fingernail across it. If the nail catches, the scratch is deep and will stay. A crack is a reason to switch the cooktop off right away and call a service technician: moisture can get inside through it, and that is a risk of electric shock.

To make the shine last longer, remove spilled sugar, jam and melted plastic with a scraper right away, with the burner switched off and an oven mitt on: once they cool, they pull tiny particles out of the glass. Do not use powders, metal sponges or oven sprays, and brush off sand and crumbs before putting down a pot.
