In Aktau, with its wind and sand, dust comes back especially fast. You can't remove it completely, but you can cut it down many times over. Here are seven ways that work.
Where all the dust in an apartment comes from
Part of the dust blows in from outside, especially in our region, where the wind carries fine sand. But more than half forms indoors: microparticles of textiles and paper, skin flakes and hair. Once you understand the sources, they are easier to fight.
Wet cleaning instead of dry
A dry rag and a broom only lift dust into the air, from where it settles again. Wipe surfaces with slightly damp microfiber: it collects the particles instead of scattering them. Regular wet cleaning reduces dust the most.
Textiles are the main dust collector
Curtains, rugs, throws and upholstered furniture accumulate dust and gradually release it back into the air. Wash and shake out textiles regularly, and vacuum rugs on both sides. The fewer dust "traps", the cleaner the air.
Watch the air and windows
Air out the apartment, but on dusty, windy days keep the windows closed or use anti-dust mesh screens. Regularly wash windowsills and frames, where street sand settles, and if possible get a humidifier or an air purifier: humid air keeps dust down low.
Clean from top to bottom, and regularly
Start with cabinets and shelves and work toward the floor, so you don't have to remove the dust twice. A short cleaning twice a week is more effective than rare deep cleans. And if you have no time at all, it is easier to leave occasional deep cleaning to us.
