For a person with allergies, a home must be not just clean but have a minimum of dust and allergens. A few systematic habits make breathing noticeably easier and reduce flare-ups.
The main enemy is dust mites
Dust mites live in textiles and bedding and are a common cause of allergies. Wash bedding at 60 °C, use mattress protectors and covers that are easy to wash, and do not accumulate extra textiles in the bedroom.
Wet cleaning only
A dry cloth lifts allergens into the air. For people with allergies, wet cleaning and a vacuum with a HEPA filter, which traps fine dust instead of blowing it back out, are especially important. More about fighting dust is in a separate article.
Fewer dust collectors
Long-pile rugs, heavy curtains, soft toys and open shelves with small items collect dust. The simpler the interior and the more closed storage, the fewer allergens and the easier the cleaning.
Pet hair and fragrance-free products
If you have a pet, brush it more often and remove hair from textiles. Choose cleaning products without strong fragrances, which can trigger a reaction themselves. We use safe products, which is especially important for people with allergies, children and animals.
